Restaurant Van de Leur Rotterdam

Cosy and nice place, cool "modular surprise menu" concept, great stories on what is served, very nice pairing wines and beers, nice service and DELICIOUS food. A no-brainer for an off-piste fresh hi-quality dining experience! Everything was great. I highly recommended this restaurant.

Concept is that you can’t pick from a menu but you go with anything from 3 to 8 courses (you can decide as you go along) which are all meat based and the staff explain what you are about to eat upon serving. The food was exceptional and the staff were warm, friendly and very informative. Good, reasonably priced wine list. Would thoroughly recommend, a great find.

My first visit to the old Meatcave half a year ago was a delightful experience, however my second visit to the new Van de Leur recently was quite disappointing. I didn’t like the new menu which adds vegetable and seafood cause I am a red meat person and expected to see a variety of red meat cooked in different ways and carefully paired with flavor lifting sauces like I had last time, but I got half of my four courses with vege and some shelled seafood with a very small quantity. The food was also served too cold even when grilled (too much time spent on plating? ) lastly, the chilly sauce paired with grilled chicken was a very bad choice like a forced marriage. We ended up going home and making steaks to put our unsatisfied stomachs and minds to rest. Probably there is no third time for us if the food stays just ordinary.

As a vegetarian I really loved the place. The meat was amazing and the company even more so. Loved the serve exactly what you expect men serving meat 😂🍖
