I never saw this kind of gate anywhere, it's truly an amazing hydraulic engineering work! I went to visit the Keringhuis an hour before the closure. It's a pity that the explanations are in dutch only, because we couldn't understand much. An English translation would help a lot! Anyway, it was worth and the employees were all very nice. At 1 there is an English guided tour so, I would suggest the non dutch speakers to go for that one.

The Maeslantkering a storm surge barrier on the Nieuwe Waterweg to protect Rotterdam and Dordrecht is a true masterpiece. It is one of the largest moving structures in the world. The Keringhuis is the visitor center where information on water management and the technical details of the barrier are explained.

This is an impressive masterpiece of hydraulic engineering. Unfortunately, I missed the annual test run by a few weeks. The museum gives a good insight into Dutch hydraulic engineering over the centuries and their fight against the sea. I find all the Delta Works constructions awesome, amazing and highly impressive.

All the information is in Dutch (there's not even in English), the audioguide doesn't work and it is impossible to follow the exposition with the printed information that they give if you ask for it. I haven't learned anything, it has been a completely useless visit. If you are dutch or you understand their language it may be interesting, otherwise it is not a recommendable visit, better to see it from the outside and watch a documentary about it. (I'm not talking about the guided tour, we couldn't do it because we would have had to wait for two hours. I'm sure it has to be very interesting)

Such an interesting place. They give a manual in English at the reception. Entry is 2.5€. Museumkaart is not valid here. Learnt a lot about the floods and how the Dutch come up with ideas to cope up with it. There is also a system where if you feed in your location (post code) it says what you do in case of a flood and your chances of flooding etc.
