Atelier en Archeologisch Museum Het Oude Station

Anyone who lives in Houten (and anyone who is interested in archeology) should visit this (small) museum to get an impression of the past: the excavations made in Houten-Zuid / Castellum are, where the space allows shown in the exhibition 'From the Iron Age to the New Building District'. In the showcases pottery, jewelry, tools, and further various objects from Roman times. The complete tree canoe from the Middle Iron Age that was found in 2010 is still for research and conservation at the National Cultural Heritage Agency in Lelystad. How nice would it be if a spacious place of their own were found, together with the fish trap dating from the same time, which is still in the town hall today! Further attention to the formation of the landscape of Houten: everything is done with attention and love. The beautiful drawings by Peter Koch show the changes. The volunteers of the Archaeological Workgroup 'Leen de Keijzer' are happy to tell you more. The only point is the limited opening hours. Anyway: open until the end of February 2020.
