Dear parents, My name is Fatima Abdulahi, I am Naser's mother in group 4 and Nadjom is in group 1 at the St Jan de Dopper school. I have a problem with the policy that the school uses on the requirement of church visits twice a year. My children have never been in a church and now they have to go to church twice a year and take part in the church activities, otherwise I will get a fine, this afternoon I got to hear this during a conversation at school! The School threatens to report compulsory education if my children are not present on these days. It is crazy for words to force Muslim children to go to church !!! Where is the freedom of Religion? For the past year I have been trying to move my children from the st jan de baptiste school to a public school. I do not succeed because my ex-husband refuses to sign, so it is not possible to change school. Questions to parents: • What do you personally think about a compulsory church visit and if the children are not going to pay you a fine? • Why are Muslim children or other children with different religion or no religion at all more or less forced to go to church? I think everyone should be left in their values and norms. As a parent, you are responsible for your children and you make decisions that you consider to be the best for your children. But what happened here is not normal! I feel like I'm being pushed into a corner and can not go any further! I would like to see that you as parents, regardless of your religion, make this subject open to discussion by expressing your opinions. Greetings, Fatima
