Glory to the Heroes

The Polish Military Field of Honor in Breda (municipality of Breda) houses the remains of 161 Polish soldiers. A cross-shaped white natural stone zircon has been placed at each grave. A cross of white natural stone is placed on the plot. The cross is placed on an elevation, to which stairs made of black natural stone lead. On the cross is the emblem of the 1st Polish Armored Division. There are four white natural stone memorials on either side of the cross. On the plot there is also an information board with both a Dutch and Polish text. General Stanisław Władysław Maczek (born: Szczerzec, March 31, 1892 - Deceased: Edinburgh, December 11, 1994) was a Polish general. He was commander of the 1st Polish Armored Division during the Second World War. December 11, 1994 Stanislaw Wladyslaw Maczek died in Edinburgh at the age of 102 years. According to his wish, he was buried with his men at the Polish Military Field of Honor at the Ettensebaan in Breda.
