It is a striking church for the municipality of Schiermonnikoog. Unfortunately, the church is hermetically sealed and therefore not accessible for viewing. The area surrounding the church consists mainly of the adjacent cemetery. This cemetery contains various poignant graves with tombstones and monuments. A striking grave monument is a heavy light wooden pole with a statue mounted on it. This is the grave of a pastor who died at the age of 32. The remarkable epitaph reads “via crucis via Lucius”.

This afternoon I had a public rehearsal / try out for my new project. What an incredibly beautiful Kerkje with ditto acoustics! Met interesting people and learned many new things about the island that I thought I knew quite a lot. Recommended! 😃
