This is truly by far the most beautiful cemetery in this area. The Jewish cemetery is also beautiful but poorly maintained. Especially in late spring, with beautiful bright light reflecting off the marble of the tombstones and busts scattered around the site, it is heavenly. For a short while you really feel as if you are completely outside the city, only in the background is some traffic noise. The small chapel on site is very special to see and visit from the inside. I think it is 'beautiful abroad' there, that feeling overwhelms me every time I am there again. Why? Well, because these kinds of picturesque spots are often visited abroad while people walk or cycle past them in their own country ... In addition, they are of course also scarce, not every city has such a small paradise. The entrance is a bit hidden just before the Zijlpoort and that gate itself, well, that is one of those places where you quickly cycle underneath on your way to the center of the city, although on the south flank of it is an eatery that was accidentally called a brasserie. a bit of a 'cocky reception place' with jetties in front of the door for the expensive vessels to moor. Pay special attention to the beautiful statues of the cemetery, look at the names of the deceased, stroll around and relax.
