I took a course on the First World War and the consequences of Versailles, parallels between the past and the present. The effect of the addition I found very meager. That is a pity because for me the reason to choose this course. Three out of 5 lectures were online through YouTube due to the Covid-19 outbreak. I found the implementation very amateurish.

I find HOVO indispensable in the academic landscape. It's great if you have an institute that has, as it were, an 'intermediate position' to get in touch with academic education. Without HOVO, there will still be a barrier to enrolling in such education. It is clear and diverse what they offer. You don't have to get lost in a regular educational offer in which you don't know your way! (André Bruijn)

Although I live in Venlo, I have a weekly travel time of 4 hours to follow the lectures of Hovo. I ended up at Hovo through my son. Hovo is of course about good content, but also meeting experienced academics from all walks of life is vitalizing. Themes such as ICT, debt and privacy lend themselves particularly well to the use of a wide range of speakers and teachers from many different disciplines. That is very refreshing. Lecture 'China, friend or foe' followed by Prof. Meine Pieter van Dijk. Interesting and topical subject, pleasant teacher, on some points I would have liked a bit more theoretical depth. The Erasmus campus is easy to reach by public transport (very frequent metro connection). Nice university atmosphere there.

The 20 lectures “History of International Relations” were given by Prof Peter Demant. Three quarters at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the last part because of the Corona measures by video. A very interesting course that also provides more insight into contemporary relations. Fascinating and taught with a lot of knowledge, with physical presence clearly adding value. All in all a HOVO course that was very rewarding.
