An unknown green spot in Gouda. I was told that in the past neighboring Croda wanted to convert this location into a parking lot. Fortunately that did not happen and you can visit this overgrown oasis. Please note the closing time. The gate is really closed!

With the enactment by the Ministry of the Interior in 1827 of the law that from 1829 no funerals were allowed inside built-up areas, the history of the "General Urban Cemetery" begins. After all kinds of start-up problems, such as the transition from burial in St. John's Church and the associated regulations and loss of money, the first burial orders were made in 1832 at an unfinished cemetery. By was a cholera epidemic forced the council to open the cemetery earlier. In 1835 a part was set up for the Roman Catholics. The auditorium was built in 1829 and still has the original layout and decorations. In 1873 there is talk of a wooden room for the temporary storage of deceased people from infectious diseases; this stood at the entrance until 1894 and was then moved to the current location. Funerals took place until 1971. The cemetery was formally closed in 1975.

Well this is an old cemetery, but it really needs a major overhaul. How would this place improve. Not that the images have anything but let nature take its course.I think it is a very beautiful place, go and take a look

Don't like to come there. There is often a decent grave atmosphere.
