Reformed Church Goudswaard

The Village Church and oldest church in Goudswaard is the NH Church of the Reformed Municipality of Goudswaard, which is located at 15 Dorpsstraat in Goudswaard. The current PKN (vmNH) church was built in 1721 (with built-in tower) and then replaced an older church from 1442. The age of the church was unclear. On the basis of a combination of architectural and color historical research, it has now become clear that the tower and the clock chair almost certainly date from the second half of the 15th century. This means that, with the bells, the only remaining parts of the original church (1442, so a Roman Catholic Church from the Middle Ages) have stood in the same place. The church hall was probably rebuilt around 1725. After some disasters and wars, the church has been restored several times and was last used again on Saturday April 19, 2008. The church is listed as a National Monument and the Monument description of the National Office reports: Rectangular hall church with wooden barrel vault and draw beams, illuminated by round arch windows, 18th century. Simple tower with narrowed needle point, probably from 1721, left over from the old church. The inventory includes: a pulpit in Louis XVI-Shapes with copper lectern and baptism gate holder. A baptism gate with copper baptismal arch from the same time and a lecturer of the cantor. Four simple benches, two of which are covered, 18th century. Three copper crowns, 18th century. Some tombstones from the 16th and 17th centuries. Single keyboard organ, made in 1809 by P.J. Geerkens. Restored in 1982 by Leeflang Orgelbouw. Clock chair with clock by P. Waghevens, 1503, diam. 82 cm and a bell from an anonymous watering can, 14th or 15th century, diam. 60.5 cm. The historical remains can still be seen in the church.
