Warning to expats looking for help when coming to the Netherlands on a self employed visa for simple freelance work... I was looking for non-biased advice about opening a BV (for a 30% ruling) vs an eenmanszaak and the tax implications of each. Instead of giving that, Maguire pushed me towards creating an expensive BV and multi-year accounting management package that did not make sense for my situation. In my opinion, the full complications and expenses associated with the solution they presented were not made clear to me. I was desperate, and should have done my research before starting the visa application process. I felt like Maguire was using the urgency around my 30% status as a way to get me to commit to an expensive package, even after I raised reservations about it not being the right option for me. After I suspected this was happening, I contacted two other tax advisers / lawyers who confirmed that I had no hope of obtaining a 30% ruling, and that a BV did not make sense in my situation. I then closed the BV, and moved forward with an eenmanszaak on my own. Over a month later I received a bill for 3.5 hours of "consulting" fees. Several of those hours were for what I thought was a free consult, and before I agreed to become a client. As a result of working with Maguire I lost multiple nights of sleep due to stress, paid over 1000 euros to create a BV I didn't need, and had to pay 840 euros for advice that was ultimately not helpful.
