Beit Ha'Chidush is a wonderful place to feel at home when you are far from home. The congregants were warm, friendly and the service was beautiful.

Beit Ha'Chidush (House of Renewal) is an independent Jewish congregation. We seek to celebrate, revive and modernize our Jewish civilization by conducting participatory and egalitarian services. Beit Ha'Chidush is a modern Jewish community for everyone with a Jewish family background. We are a community based on equality: BHC welcomes people with one or two Jewish parents; men, women and any other gender identity; straight or lgbtqi; parents and children; youths and older people. Three times a month and at festivals, BHC members gather in the attractive Uilenburger synagogue in the former Jewish area of Amsterdam. We celebrate Shabbat and major festivals based on traditional sources. However, we constantly try to find ways to connect to modern life, e.g. from Jewish Renewal and other modern Jewish movements

I was in Amsterdam over Rosh Hashana 5776/2015 and attended services in their temporary facility, while the main Synagogue was being renovated. I emailed them ahead of time with my request to attend which was immediately and graciously responded to. I confirmed my visit with a friend and arrived on Erev Rosh Hashana. It was a very warm and friendly service. I would definitely go back again!

The community was founded in 1995 by Jews with secular and religious backgrounds who wanted to create a welcoming, inspiring and renewed Jewish congregation. Since 1997 Beit Ha’Chidush uses the atmospheric Uilenburger Synagogue (1766) in the former Jewish quarter of Amsterdam. Beit Hachidush draws from traditional and modern Jewish sources, including the Reform, Reconstructionists, Jewish Renewal, Liberal and Humanistic streams Judaism. Beit Hachidush has services at least three times per month for Shabbat and holidays . We use our own trilingual siddur (Hebrew, English, Dutch), and our own Haggadah (the order of service for the Passover celebration). Visitors praise our informal, warm and cozy atmosphere. Email or call us in advance if you would like to come.
