Recently been here for a wedding. Well, I have nothing to do with churches, but I adapt and experience the whole event. But this time I had "pleasure" for a long time. What worthless benches to sit on, after 2 hours of pain we were finally allowed to leave. Three weeks of back complaints. Not so strange that the churches "deflate". Put down a few lounge sofas, that will certainly help.

The oldest church in Rijsoord, formerly Rezoord now municipality of Ridderkerk, is the NH Church on Rijksstraatweg. Originated in the Middle Ages it was therefore a Roman Catholic Church. Rijsoord is located in the Zwijndrechtsewaard, a former island in the delta of the rivers Rhine and Maas. It is first mentioned in a gift letter from Bishop Ansfrid in 1006; but the original gift letter no longer exists and the existing copies show quite a few differences and are therefore not reliable. In the following centuries, the name Zwijndrechtsewaard, and also the Riederwaard, popped up repeatedly. The Augustinian monastery de Hoge Horst in Amersfoort and the St. Paul's abbey in Utrecht had possessions in the inn, but not much is known about this. In 1101 there is mention of Thiedradeskerke (probably located on the Waal between present day Heerjansdam and Rijsoord), which was owned by St. Jan in Utrecht, who also had possessions on the spot in 1216. The year 1332 was of paramount importance in the fight against the water. In that year the island of Zwijndrecht was attached to the Riederwaard by the dams, which later became the Oostendam, resp. would be called the Heerjansdam. The history of Rijsoord therefore does not actually start until January 14, 1332, the date on which Count Willem III announced in Brussels that he would have the Zwijndrecht inn reclaimed and the costs of the dams on his account. On May 1, 1332, Count William III grants nobility to his registrar Gheryt Alewynssone (born c. 1280) from Leiden to enable him to become craftsman of 1 / 16th part of the reclaimed land. At the same time, the son Aelwyn is also awarded nobility. In 1332, the craftsmanship of Rijsoord from Gerard passed to his son Aelwyn Gerardsz and then to his grandson Jacob van Rijsoirde until 1429. The son and grandson have both brought it to the dignity of knights . Only in 1960 the name Gerard Alewynsz is mentioned again in an official document when the city council of Rijsoord decides to link the name of Rijsoord's first craftsman to a street that is not located in his own craft, but on the other side of the Waal. . Until 1543 they crossed the much wider Waal with a ferry. What is now called the Rijsoordsestraat was then the Veerweg. The residents of the Zwijndrechtse Waard, who had paid for the construction of the bridge through a cover over the landowners, had free crossing; but transit travelers had to pay a small amount. The Veerweg was repeatedly extended until in 1543 the hole had become small enough to replace the barge with a bridge; the name: 'Die brugghe in Ryzoort' was born. In 1572 this bridge was destroyed by a group of watergeuzen (or the Spaniards?). Some time later, in 1615, a bridge was built that was more like the current one. The craftsman of Rijsoord took care of this, provided he received a permit to collect bridge fees. Later, the inhabitants again invoked their old right of exemption and the Hoge Vierschaar of South Holland gave a ruling in the dispute. This happened in 1617 and it was agreed to repay the costs of making the bridge to the craftsman, to which the landowners and tenants of the entire Zwijndrechtse Waard paid. The Reformed Church of Rijsoord was built in 1832 and stood on the spot where Gerard Alewijnsz, the first craftsman of Rijsoord, had founded a church 500 years earlier and of which Pieter Clingen became the first pastor in August 1336. It is understandable that it building was in urgent need of replacement. Well, that happened surprisingly quickly. On March 4, 1832, Rev. David Dagevos, in those days pastor in Rijsoord, for the last time in this church and on Monday the demolition started. On Sunday December 16 of the same year, Ds. Dagevos take the new church into use. Source: Publications of the Oud Ridderkerk Foundation.
