Geologisch Monument Bouwepet

Beautiful nature reserve near Munein.

The Geological monument: On the occasion of the 1996-1999 land consolidation, a geological monument has been erected just south of Mûnein. Jan Faber is the originator, initiator and builder of this. A few villages in De Trynwâlden, including Giekerk, lie here on a boulder clay hill. Later, sand was sprayed over here. The sand has again been partially excavated for the need for filler sand in Leeuwarden. When new ditches were dug during the land consolidation, the boulder clay hump was cut and many stones came to lie on the surface. Faber collected them all and took them home. It eventually became many thousands of stones and a true stone desert arose around his house. He is therefore pleased that the stones have been given such a beautiful destination because they have been incorporated into the monument. The Geological Monument is sometimes referred to as Bouwepet, but that is actually the name of the adjacent nature reserve. The island is also the start and end point of a nature trail along which there are also 18 large boulders. The hiking trail is closed from 8 April to 15 June, but the monument is freely accessible throughout the year. (Source: Stichting Karakteristyk Tytsjerksteradiel)

Nice .. A little bit of geology can not hurt during a nice walk.

Become a 'museum' here, but I do not see that. Nice to have a look, otherwise not special. You can still take a walk.

It was a super beautiful monument! But a little maintenance would be nice! The weeds are high anyway, and there are also many loose stones ...
