Lovely place, charming, peaceful and plenty of good attention from its crew. Personnel polite and respectful. By the way, you've to try the cakes, ALL OF THEM. Spectacular, 100% recommended.

Cute place. But not the best acoustic, very hard to hear each other. So so coffee. Mixed feelings about this place.

What a huge improvement! "In the old days" there was a bungler from an owner who gave you dirty food with a grumpy look. Now friendly people are running the renovated pavilion, they serve tasty sandwiches and good coffee, and the surrounding park island is slowly but surely being completely renovated. As soon as the weather and the corona rules allow it, we will definitely hang out here on the terrace :-)

What is an Amsterdammer looking for in Deventer? Do you have a minute…? I could name a whole list of what makes Deventer unique to me. But let's stick to the Bird Island for this review. Anyone who, like me, arrives in Deventer by train and wants to visit the beautiful old city center, will pass the bird island on his right. This is a heavily neglected city park with two large bird aviaries, an open-air theater and at the entrance, on a hill, a pavilion with a view over the city. The location is beautiful but exploitation has been a problem for many years. To my surprise I discovered yesterday that the pavilion has reopened and has undergone a very thorough makeover. The new, "enthusiastic" owners have turned it into something special. The interior design exudes a tropical, warm atmosphere. The newly opened terrace is cozy with nice seats, comfortable sofas and cozy cushions. You immediately feel at home. And if you want to take that atmosphere home with you, you can, because all the furniture you see comes from the shops of the owners of this restaurant. Mees is open September 1, 2020. Their promotional advertising on Facebook is striking. Definitely have a look. But what matters is the selection of delicacies and the service. The hostesses are friendly and fast. The menu is extensive and well thought out. From breakfast to dinner, the dishes cannot be called everyday. For each his own. Mees is not cheap, but you do get value for money. In addition to serving tasty food and drinks, Mees also organizes various activities and you can get married or have a nice party built. Mees has set the pace for innovation. The Bird Island itself will finally be renovated by the municipality in the coming months, so that a visit to this unique island will be a pleasant experience for tourists as well as for the inhabitants of Deventer.
