Historical place. Several roads converged here. This holy place under the "sacred oaks" was used in ancient times for the "landstag". The tribes gathered here to "judge" and settle disputes. The Romans left their mark by planting sweet chestnuts. There are still many of these trees in the surrounding forest. During Christianization, the traditional Germanic holy places were replaced by Christian ones. Hence the chapel at this place. To the east of the chapel is a small fen that stretched to the chapel a thousand years ago. Here the first Christians were baptized. This fen has largely disappeared due to sand drifts. However, it is still possible to infer where the fen was located from the vegetation on the spot.
Nice point to walk to. Not very special otherwise. There is a border marker (Limburg / Brabant), a well and the chapel. The chapel is (almost) never open. The children really like it when they are lifted up to be able to look through the windows.
