Tourist Information Office. Would you like to learn about the city's architecture? Do you want to know where are the most beautiful places in the city? Are you interested in meetings, festivals and fairs organized in the city, or maybe you are curious about the history of the city? Here you can get the answer to your questions - ask a question at the Tourist Information Office. And did you know that the city of Hoogeveen remained a peat colony for centuries, and the history of peat in the present Hoogeveen commune has been described since 1551. Peat was mined through a canal (Nieuwe Grift) over the water to Meppel and transported on and on. Initially, different names were used in the new location: Hooch Echten, Nieuw Echten and Echten's Hoogeveen. What can we find in Hoogeveen? The city has some of the oldest houses on this site with beautiful facades, such as Huis met de Duivengaten and a former pharmacy with a stone gable, as well as Olde Schippershuus from 1632-1633, De Zwaluw corn mill on the van Echtenstraat, Vincent van Gogh House , Remonstrant Church on Grote Kerkstraat, Grote Kerk on Grote Kerkstraat and others. If you are in the area, it is worth seeking information and visiting the city. I recommend!
