The Bastion on the southwestern point of the Vijfwal overlooks the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and the Island of Schalkwijk. The Vijfwal is a pentagonal structure that connects the whole of Houten-Zuid. The shore consists of wide, tree-lined dikes, approximately 1.50 meters high and 35 meters wide on average. On the corners there are characteristic elevations in the form of so-called bastions: in the southwest this lies between the neighborhoods of Stones and De Muren. The total length of the Vijfwal is approximately 5 kilometers, comparable to the city walls around old inner cities. The Vijfwal is a landmark in the buildings, has a fitness trail, and you can walk or walk the dog well.
