Amsterdam institution. Along with the Melkweg by far in my opinion the best place to see gigs on this scale in town. Watch the gig list as tickets go quickly for popular events.

Paradiso is located in the former association building from 1879 of the denomination "De Vrije Gemeente" , which was designed by the architect GB Salm . The building was squatted by a group of hippies in October 1967 to have their own club. About fifty people continue a 'love-in' started in the Vondelpark in the newly squatted building. However, the police soon raided and put an end to the festivities. The municipality was looking for an answer to the need for housing based on the new forms of youth culture. Under the leadership of HCJ Struijk van Bergen as director, the Municipal Youth Care Agency focused on solving the problem and organizations such as the Amsterdam Municipal Leisure Centers Foundation and the Lijn 3 Foundation were set up. These are committed to the establishment and maintenance of youth centers, which resulted in the establishment of Paradiso in early 1968. Already in the first months, well-known groups such as Pink Floyd , The Pretty Things and Captain Beefheart performed. Paradiso, for example, soon received the stamp 'pop temple'. The success of Paradiso served as a source of inspiration for municipal youth care agencies from Rotterdam and Utrecht, among others, who wanted to set up similar projects. In the 1970s, the original stained glass windows of the church building were replaced with mirrors on the inside and wooden panels on the outside. During the renovation in 1993, it was decided by the artists Hans van Houwelingen and Berend Strik to design new stained-glass windows. The pop temple celebrated its 50th anniversary on the weekend of March 31, 2018. To celebrate this, an exhibition about the history of Paradiso opened in the Amsterdam Museum on Amsterdam's Kalverstraat at the end of March 2018 . The pop stage celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special program and various performances.

Great place for live music, really nice building, but it takes a while to get out if the concert hall after the concert, it gets really crowded. There's lockers available for 2euros that are quite small, but big enough to just fit a bag with a laptop (although I wouldn't advise leaving your laptop there).

The story of European countercolture starts here. The Jurassic multimedia concept starts here. And then? The most important rock pop venue of Amsterdam and more. If you wanna dance or l8sten to music live, that's the place.
