Manila Chinese Cemetery

Unique experience when you rent a bicycle to tour the actual streets and avenues of the deceased. Chinese had to have their own cemetery because Catholics wouldn’t allow them in theirs.

Pretty unique in the sense that there are hardly shared lots for resting places here. There are mostly mausoleums. Lots of old chinese families have their mausoleums built here and most are bigger than apartment units. Some even have two storeys and bathrooms. The cemetery also houses a lot of caretakers and their families as well because of the underground economy of maintaining the mausoleums. The atmosphere is pretty laid back here and is conducive for strolling.

Fascinating cemetery but it would be good to have a local guide/more signage to explain the history behind it. Watch out for wild dogs.

Very interesting place. Thousands of people are live there (actually in more comfy conditions than in slum). Here (and in another parts of cemetery) you can find real shops, garages, playgrounds etc. Just be careful that different parts of cemetery (Manila North Cemetery, Chinese Cemetery, Catholic Cemetery) are divided by walls, so you should go out and get round by street to get to another part of cemetery.

Not exactly the nicest cemetery in the metro but it is well maintained.
