This Beautiful Church is declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum.
This is my first time to visit Romblon, Romblon. My main goal is to visit the St. Joseph Cathedral that was declared as one of the National Cultural Treasures by the National Museum. I boarded in a pumpboat from the town of San Agustin in Tablas Island and after an hour of sailing I arrived at the Romblon Motorboat Terminal. Fare is only P100. After I disembarked from the boat, I observed first my new environment although I already studied the directions of the places I wanted to explore through Google Map. From the sea port, I walked going to the Freedom Park where the tricycle terminal is located nearby. I asked a driver to take me to the Cathedral, but he said that it was just near and pointed me the dome of the Cathedral that was visible from where I stood. Then I thanked him and proceeded to walk slowly. As I approached the Cathedral, I was mesmerized by the imposing structure. I saw the old convent at the left side and the bell tower at the right side of this almost 4-century old Cathedral. The Cathedral was made of blocks of corals on its facade, walls and buttresses. While the bell tower was made of red bricks and blocks of corals also. It is so impressive. But, the Cathedral was closed. I'd known later after I read an overview of this Cathedral that the best time to visit is when there's mass, otherwise, the keepers won't allow visitors to enter inside if there is no mass or gathering. So I decided to go to the Adoration Chapel and thanked God for my safe travel and prayed for the healing of my sibling and friend who are currently battling for cancer. Because it is also Lenten season, I liked to start the traditional "visita iglesia".
Date of visit - 3/2-3/18
A place you should visit when you are at Romblon, Romblon!
