Old Spanish Church Ruins

Beautiful Area and great place to stop for some pictures and Island History. We got there late so they were "closed" but they still let us in and one of the kids from the little desk walked around with us explaining everything and taking pictures for us. He was really great, and so was the time at the ruins. There is some really amazing nature along with the historic ruins and all together it made for a great little stop!

It's like you went to the past seeing how the rocks and colars made into a wall.

Learning about the volcanic eruption and how the successive quakes destroyed something beautiful was interesting. There is a big tree in the back that probably witnessed what happened. This place is quiet and beautiful, but also tragic. It was fun to explain "buttresses" to my wife and explain European building methods that she was not familiar with. The people around the place were absolutely wonderful.

Nice place for a side trip before going to the Sunken Cemetery since this is just along the highway in Catarman. It is a nice place to get in touch with nature while being reminded of just how powerful is nature’s fury. The century old tree is so amazing you shouldn’t miss to take a picture. If you’re a solo traveller, taking is a selfie is not your only option since there are kids who will be offering to take your picture for a small fee.

Volunteer guide was very helpful. She is grade 11 and a photo journalist who has very good skills with photography specially with smart phones.
