I delivered mail from the commanding officer Naval magazine Subic bay in the early 80's to this refugee center. I was amazed because I had participated in the pick up of two boats of refugees while serving as a busy coxswain advised the carrier kitty Hawk in the South China Sea, and I never knew what became of the people we head rescued. While being given a tour of the center in 1984 I met some Vietnamese folks. Fast forward to 1997 after I retired I was working in an auto parts store in my hometown and was approached by a Vietnamese man who had a shop locally, who told me that he remembered me from the refugee center in the Philippines. Talk about small world.

Reaching the Boat People Museum goes through a road that normal travellers won't heed. Minding off the beach resort signs coming from Subic Bay, take the left and you'll reach Bataan Technology Park. The Boat People Museum is managed by BTPI itself. You'll see the boat used by the refugees and their worship sites. For Roman Catholic pilgrimages, it is also where the Shrine of St. Pope John Paul II is located.
