We would have given the place a 4-star rating especially since the ambiance and food meets expectations of a Grand Hyatt guest. What disappointed us are the ff:
1. We reserved a table for lunch and the host paid the downpayment (7,500) prior to going there. Bill came out (21k) and the downpayment was not credited. Good thing we asked for the Official Receipt to be given to us, which we had to ask 3-4x repeatedly and they insisted that they already gave it to us when in fact, nothing was given. When finally we got the OR, the downpayment was not deducted in the total bill.
2. They acknowledged their mistake in not crediting the downpayment and they promised to deposit back the downpayment on the next business day (Monday, we went on a Friday). Come Tuesday, we still didn't get an update on whether the dp was deposited. We have to follow up every now and then and chase after them for the money that is supposed to be returned to us.
3. On the day of the lunch, set menu is already pre-approved, drinks will be ordered ala carte. The server greeted us with welcome drinks and asked us to choose from watermelon or cranberry juice. Since we already knew that the lunch follows a set menu, we assumed that the welcome drinks are complimentary, until we asked for the bill and found out that each watermelon juice costs 236++ and they served 10, 2360+ in total, subject to service charge. The server did not explain this to us beforehand. Should we have known that the juices cost that much, we would have already ordered for a bottle of wine instead. If the server explained this instead of straightaway pushing for us to choose from the two juices being served or the very least present the drinks menu for us to choose from, we get more value for what we order than what was given.
The dining experience would have been good overall, but it's these underlying hidden charges and sneaky charging that really ruined the experience. While we understand that there is shortage in manpower due to the pandemic or there is a need to increase the rates of dining to recover from their non-operational months, it is disappointing to get this kind of service from a Grand Hyatt hotel. It feels deceptive and a total rip-off. Everyone is going thru tough times right now and some people have their own defense mechanism to live a semblance of the "new normal". But if the new normal entails swindling from your guests, this service is a total disgrace to the Grand Hyatt brand.
First time to have gone to the lounge.
Their staff are quick and very knowledgeable.
We came just after lunch so we enjoyed the tea and some of the pastries.
Not many people around at that time which was fine for us.
Accessible both by stairs in glass/acrylic which is different and exciting
- and by lift/elevator. Very nice toilets nearby.
After a disappointing experience at TWG, I took my family here to continue our bonding date.
Because the ambiance seemed better, my first impression was good. I even wanted to come back here with A.
Food was nothing special. It was decent but forgettable. Come here if you want the ambiance but don't get your hopes high on the food.
I was particularly shocked when a server went to our table and apologized and told me "feet off the sofa, Ma'am, sorry". My feet were a bit sore so I wanted to put them up for relief, but I guess this is a strict policy.
I understand the policy but personally... Kind of disappointing to experience this, considering I've done these to countless 5* establishments I've stayed at and no one batted an eye. I guess I'll go back to Shangri-La for my afternoon tea dates, then. 😊
First time to visit The Lounge here at Grand Hyatt hope to discover new flavors at this place.
I’ve visited the Lounge area a number of times during my stay, and every time it’s been really enjoyable.
I tired the fish and chips and the penne bolognese. The fish was super crispy and crunchy, the crunchiest fish coating I’ve ever had. Overall it was ok. The penne pasta with bolognese sauce is absolutely delicious, and the portion size is huge! Pair your meal with a fresh lemonade!
My favorite part about the lounge is that if you go late enough in the evening, you’ll be treated to live music! I really enjoyed the pianists and the singers!
