Star Slimmer Fitness Gym

By the photos on this dog of a gym, it looks good. But the staff are lazy and disengaged, obviously only there to sit around, chat on their cell phone, and talk to visitors. No one goes around to clean equipment, to rack up plates, or to greet gym rats welcome. Often the rap blaring loudly on the sound system is filled with swearing and thumping that is more than distasteful! All of the equipment is old, with some broken down and rusting against a wall taking up needed space. Nearly everything is dirty and rusty, but with some imagination the place good enough to keep one's muscle groups toned. Pick up a plate from the floor and it's quite possible you will be headed to the filthy broken-down restroom to wash the rust off your hands. Once in there, be somewhat appalled by the smell and appearance: no proper showers, the sink doesn't work, the big pail and dipper on the floor is used by everyone to 'flush' the toilet, 'take a shower,' and wash one's hands: everyone does what's needed, and gets out as quickly as possible through a dirty door with no door handle or knob. This non-aircon place desperately needs a paint job and many of the benches repaired, but in such a country people have become used to such places everywhere. So everyone goes about their business as if nothing is wrong... Deplorable but not unusual for this country where this 'gym' would be seen as pretty good. It only merits 1/2 star partly because a 'gym' up the street is much worse, as with several others in the city. I need to reserve 1 star for the likes of it. One day the 'chinese' owner showed up to do a short tour of the place, and had the staff suddenly running around as if the place merited any such energy output. Too bad, but chinoy owners of such establishments are obviously in it only for what cash they can squeeze from those who seek a decent workout. Why did I return by staying in the city? A gym closer to my place is cleaner, has air con, but not enough equipment, also old, to merit a return. And the best gym is halfway across the city. Go here in old workout clothes. The rust may never wash out.
