Japanese Cannon

This Japanese Naval canon was initially designed for coastal defence and as an anti-aircraft weapon for ships, however became popular for ground use too. There is an urban legend surrounding its accidental (or intentional?) placement facing the US embassy nearly a kilometer south.

You find this cannon next to the Baluarte de San Diego. Some call it the japanese cannon and some speak about the american cannon maybe because the american army captured it after the war. It woud seem that this cannon was originally installed on a Japanse battle ship and dismanteled to serve in the war against the americans here in Manila.

This is actually a Japanese naval gun that has been removed from their battleship and installed in intramuros as their last line of defense against the Americans during the battle of Manila in Feb. 1945..The gun that has been missed by US bomber planes during their air raid before the start of liberation of Manila. It cause great damage to the building around manila and reach its devastation as far as Manila city hall..Its location has been a puzzle to the Americans who has been hidden excellently by the Japanese..

Nice cannon. Apparently one of the first cannons still left after the Japanese war. Also the cannon seems to be directed in the direction of the US embassy which was interestingly pointed out!
