Our Lady of the Candles, representing the Blessed Virgin Mary when She presented Her Son, the infant Lord Jesus Christ to the Temple of Jerusalem. There, the Old Prophet Simeon beheld the Messiah and told Mother Mary and St. Joseph that the Baby would bring about the rise and fall of Israel. He also predicted that the Blessed Mother's Heart would be pierced with a sword, foretelling the Sorrows that She would endure in Her life on Earth because of Her Son, because of His Passion and Death, primarily. Mother Mary became a beacon of light in the darkest moment in history, and who are we to be disheartened and unbelieving when God doesn't listen when His own Mother held fast to Her faith when God was dying on the Cross? In moments of doubt, let the Light of Mary guide us back to the shore of God's Kingdom.
