Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego Statue

The Blessed Virgin Mary's apparition to St. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin at Tepeyac Hill, Mexico on December 9-12, 1531. She asked Juan Diego to go to the bishop and have him build a chapel in Her honor on that site where once stood a pagan temple in which human hearts were sacrificed to Aztec gods. Bishop Juan de Zumarraga asked for proof that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego. Juan Diego didn't make it to the appointed second meeting he should've had with Our Lady because his uncle is dying and the latter asked him to get a priest to administer last rites to him. Embarrassed that he couldn't fulfill his duty to Our Lady, he walked a different path than where he met Her, but still She appeared to him on the road, ordering him to continue on his mission and reassuring him that his uncle is already healed. The Blessed Mother appeared also to Juan's uncle, and she revealed to him Her name, the Lady of Guadalupe.nnMother Mary asked Juan Diego to pick flowers at the peak of Tepeyac Hill (it was wintertime then in Mexico, so no flower would bloom) and he collected what he can gather on his Tilma (sort of a cloak for winter) and brought it to Our Lady. She blessed the flowers and then told Juan Diego to go straight for the bishop and present to him the proof. Upon meeting the bishop, Juan Diego unfurled his tilma filled with flowers and lo and behold! The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was printed miraculously on the Tilma. They all knelt in front of Her image and a chapel was indeed built in Her honor on Tepeyac Hill and is now the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Millions of people were converted to the Catholic faith because of this miracle and apparition and until today, devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe is growing worldwide.
