The Jesuits were brought to Braniewo by the Bishop of Warmia, Cardinal Stanisław Hozjusz, in 1565. Soon, the famous Collegium Hosianum, the first of the Polish Jesuit schools, was established on their initiative. It was located in a former Franciscan monastery. In the years 1743-1771, for the needs of the school, a late Baroque, three-story building was erected, and in 1923 a western span was added to it and a defensive tower called Klesza was incorporated into the complex of buildings. During Prussian times, the school's tradition was continued by the Hosianum High School and the Theological Academy, which operated until 1944. Currently, this extremely interesting place is the seat of the Vocational School Complex (ul. Gdańska 17).
