Mural: Grudzień 1970

The mural: "December 1970" is located on the retaining wall between the SKM Gdynia - Stocznia stop and Janka Wiśniewskiego street. It occupies the entire wall, gray for years. It is almost 200 meters long and about 5 meters high at its highest point. It was made of paints in four subdued colors and commemorates the tragic events that happened in this place in December 1970. The author of the project is Bartosz Szymański. The mural was created in November 2012. It was created by the famous Gdynia street artist "Obzeda", together with his friend - a graffiti artist known in the Tri-City, nicknamed "Homo", with the help of football fans gathered in the Gdynia Ark Fans Association. The mural was painted mainly at night, when the traffic on this street is much lower. To this day, the perpetrators of the massacre known as "Black Thursday" have not been punished. On December 17, 1970, the army blocked the workers' way to the shipyard from the SKM stop. Firearms were used, 18 people died, 12 of them under the age of 21. The most famous victim was "Janek Wiśniewski" (real name Zbigniew Godlewski), whose body on the door was carried to the municipal office on Świętojańska Street, where further clashes took place. Every time I pass this mural, I have shivers down my back ... The project was financed by the City of Gdynia (it cost probably 15,000). I RECOMMEND :)
