Legend has it that the chapel stands at the meeting place of King Jan III Sobieski, who was returning from Vienna after the victorious relief, with his wife Marysieńka, who went to meet him. To commemorate this event, a wooden chapel was erected, which stood until the January Uprising in 1863. After the uprising, the inhabitants of Tarnogóra together with the insurgents decided to build a stone chapel. In the upper semicircular part of the chapel there is a sculpture of St. Michael the Archangel with a sword as a sign of victory. During military operations on July 26, 1944, when the German army fled towards the Vistula, Krakowskie Przedmieście Street was burnt down, along with the chapel. After the liberation, the inhabitants of Tarnogóra rebuilt the chapel.
