Lovice Cathedral was declared a historical monument in 2012. The temple is of particular importance to the history and culture of Poland. It was founded by the archbishops of Gniezno (primates of Poland since the 15th century). From the 16th to the 18th century, Lovic was the archbishop's main residential town, who turned the then collegiate church of Lowic, next to the Gniezne Cathedral, into the most important church in the country. Within its walls were held church councils and the most important affairs of the Church and the Republic of Poland were decided. Kings also made pilgrimages here. The current cathedral is a necropolis of twelve archbishops and many other dignitaries with top-class tombstones, fine jewelry and historical memorabilia that define this temple not only as a sacred sanctuary, but also as a monument of Polish history and culture, inextricably linked with the history of the church.

A beautiful basilica. The greatest monument of Łowicz. It has a three-nave interior with an elongated presbytery and 6 chapels. The cathedral serves as the mausoleum of 12 Polish primates buried in the basement of the temple (hence it is referred to as the "Wawel of Mazovia") and there is also a monumental organ with three keyboards and 41 voices. From the tower you can admire the panorama of the city. In 1999, the cathedral was given the title of minor basilica by Pope John Paul II, who prayed there during one of his pilgrimages to his homeland. In August, the International Organ Festival of Johann Sebastian Bach.

The plaque in front of the cathedral says that the Cathedral Basilica in Łowicz is a unique monument of our Mazovian land and the origins date back to the eleventh century, when the wooden church of Łowicz founded by Prince Władysław Herman was built and the Łowicz land was only endorsed as the goods of the Primate of Poland, they presented in Łowicz from the 16th to the 18th century in

Lovely church. What can I say, on the internet you will find a lot of interesting information about this place. It is worth going on a "guided walk" during the summer holidays because you can then go up the tower and see the beautiful panorama of the city, and additionally visit the museum located in one of the towers.

A magnificent historic basilica visited and raised to this rank by the Polish Pope John Paul II. Great interior with many monuments. Very nice outside.
