The reserve includes the Rawka river bed from the sources to the mouth of the Bzura (about 97 km), as well as the lower sections of the right-bank tributaries (Krzemionki, Korabiewki, Rokita and Grabianka), oxbow lakes and land strips adjacent to the 10 m wide banks. Rawka is a clean river water and fast current, strongly meandering. The purpose of the reserve's protection is to preserve in a natural state a typical medium-sized lowland river along with the landscape of its valley and the living environment of many rare and protected plants and animals.
Within the reserve there are several dozen teams and communities of non-forest vegetation as well as several forest and scrub communities. Most of the area is covered by meadows, riparian and alder forests, fragments of peat bogs and rush vegetation.
The area of the reserve is under active protection.
