The previous speaker spoke beautifully about this place 👍. I would just like to add that, a few years ago, the team from "Było, did not pass" professionally examined the local legend about the burial at the same cemetery, Major Hubal (questioned witnesses, GPR, parish books ...) with a negative result 😥. In the photos, souvenirs from World War I in the form of bullet marks.
The parish cemetery in Inowłódz.
The first burials in Inowłódz took place within the Romanesque church of St. Giles where, among others under the church floor, was buried in 1593, the local prelate, Fr. Adam Stryecz.
The present parish cemetery was established around 1840, as evidenced by the oldest grave dating back to 1844. Initially, it was located on a small square that still exists today, west of the temple. It was in line with the then tradition of locating cemeteries in the immediate vicinity of the church. Around 1860, the cemetery was already full, so it was decided to establish a new cemetery, locating it on a previously cleared piece of forest north of the church of St. Giles. There are no monumental sepulchral objects with original architectural forms, with high-class sculptural works signed by eminent artists, typical of big city cemeteries in the Inowłódz cemetery, or found in rural cemeteries - where landowners' families were buried. More modest forms, also characteristic of areas within a considerable radius of Inowłodz, predominate. The material of most old tombstones is equally characteristic - modest sandstone and only a few noble types of stone. The once popular cast-iron tombstones are quite rare and there are no longer any wooden crosses. The Inowłódz cemetery will not satisfy the picky connoisseur and art expert, but with a significant number of modest tombstones, several of them deserve attention.
