Wieleń nad Notecią was a city where for three centuries three nationalities representing their main religious denominations lived together. Both Catholic Poles, Evangelical Germans and Jews formed separate social groups that had their own temples, cemeteries and school facilities. Separate elementary schools for Catholic, Evangelical and Jewish children operated until the first years of the 20th century. It was then decided to build one large didactic facility. Gemeindeschule, as the Wieluń Universal School was called in German, was established in 1906-1908. Szkolna Street was chosen for its location. A magnificent building consisting of three connected blocks with neo-Gothic features was erected by local enterprises. After regaining independence, the German primary school replaced the German institution. Today, the building has its headquarters Casimir the Great
