Each of us has probably heard about the old oak Bartek, almost the oldest tree in Poland. Meanwhile, in Malice (commune Werbkowice, Lubelszczyzna) grows his less known colleague, more impressive and almost as old as the famous Bartek - this is the oak of St. John. Oak grows just off the Malice-Wronowice road. Although Malicki oak is not as popular and known as "Bartek" in Zagnańsk or "Bolko" in Hniszów, it belongs to the wonderful age floral specimens. In contrast to the oaks it is very healthy and viable. The oak crown is exceptionally spreading and worth attention. Research has determined the age of the tree to be over 400 years. Therefore, he already has a great deal of life behind him and still proudly adorns the Malian landscape. An additional attraction is the stylish old chapel, erected under an oak tree to the glory of St. John of Nepomuk. Until the 1930s, it was in the meadows near the Huczwa River. The vagaries of the weather and frequent backwaters that accompanied the neighborhood of Huczwa meant that the chapel was notoriously flooded, which contributed to its frequent destruction. Local people, aiming to save the old chapel, moved it under the safe wings of an old oak and from this chapel it took the name "Saint John's Oak".
