The gate in Szprotawa (Sprottau) was built in the 14th century. There is one of the two gates of the defensive walls.

In the southern part of the Old Town there is a former city gate to this day. Because she watched the road to Żagań - it is called the Żagańska Gate. The first mention of its existence comes from 1330. It was said at that time "Steintor" (Stone Gate) and looked a bit different than today. In the place of the white wall with the coat of arms of the city, there was once an arched entry. A brick buttress wall was also created in modern times. The gate has been reconstructed many times today, with two floors and an attic. Old window openings and passages have been preserved. The stone spheres embedded in the wall are most likely from the fifteenth century, from the time of the Hungarian siege. Inside, he resides - the Museum of the Szprotawa Land established on the initiative of the Lower Silesian Forests Association. The facility operates based on the work of local social workers and regionalists. It has 6 exhibition halls and a small, fenced outdoor square, where first-war memorials from Witkowo and Siecieborzyc were placed. The patron of the museum is Felix Matuszkiewicz - born in Szprotawa in 1855, a German regionalist with Polish roots. He studied law and history in Heidelberg, Leipzig and Greifswald. He made his doctorate in law in Wrocław. After returning to Szprotawa he worked as a notary and advocate. He was the author of many historical studies on Szprotawa and its surroundings. In 2010, his "History of Szprotawa" from 1908 translated into Polish.
