The village of Barcice, Commune of Ryjewo, you can see two interesting Mennonite cemeteries here. The first one is located on a hill near the village of Barcice. 11 tombstones and 2 wooden inscriptions have been preserved here. In the second cemetery, located in the nearby forest, there are several dozen burial places from the 19th century and the pre-war period. A memento of the Mennonites who lived here in the past are the settlements located on artificially built terpy hills, among them there are langhof, winkelhof and other homesteads, often of the 19th century, we can find them in the towns of Barcice, Matowskie Pastwiska, Rudniki and Jarzębina.
The Mennonites - the Dutch, a religious group that once lived in the areas of the Kwidzyn County, left after themselves characteristic buildings, unique in Poland settlements on terps, dams, drainage and water systems.
People began to settle in the village of Bartsitsa only in the 18th century, from the moment the Mennonites appeared in it. Initially, they built a wooden, and then a brick house of prayer, which in 1945 was devastated, and after a dozen and a half years was demolished. From a very large colony of Dutch there were two cemeteries, on which there are nine and a half steles. The first cemetery is located at the beginning of the village, significantly raised in relation to the surrounding territories, and in front of the cemetery there is a large stone - a commemorative obelisk with inscriptions in Polish and German.
The cemetery has 11 steles and 2 wooden tables with elevations. To the east of the cemetery is a residential building - a former priest's house and school, as well as a utility room. Between the cemetery and the farm there are fragments of the foundation of the former Mennonite church
A lot of tombstones have been preserved, but vandalism and here is visible ...
Personally nothing special. Neglected memory of people living here.
It is located right next to my parents' house, a place of "play" or rather frequent visits as a kid, when I just wanted to be "alone" and there I felt "alone";)
