The creator and first owner of this rococo palace from 1728 was Krzysztof Strzycki - a Gdańsk stonemason. The name of the house derives from the coat of arms placed above the portal. The image of a black woman on a golden background will be invented by K. Strzycki himself. This stonemason came from a poor family who was not related to any important craftsmen. In spite of his talent, he did not gain the approval of Gdańsk artists for a long time. He was called "Negro" ... Only marrying a rich Gdańsk man raised his social position. The house near the Negro, like most of the Gdańsk monuments, was severely damaged during World War II. It was rebuilt only at the beginning of the 1970s. For a long time, it was a branch of the Workers' Holiday Fund, and now a five-star, elegant hotel is operating.
