Primary School No. 6 opened its doors for the first time on September 1, 1959, on the 20th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. The school building was erected at the then street of General Sikorski, near the site of the great Nazi execution. Therefore, in order to pay homage to "murdered in Inowrocław in the years 1939-1945", a memorial plaque was embedded in the southern wall of the building, which was unveiled during the opening ceremony of the school. "Six" was the first secular and then the largest school in our city. In 32 branches, 1250 students started their studies. They have at their disposal 15 classrooms, well-equipped physical-chemical and biological laboratories, a gymnasium, a doctor's office and a beautiful common room with a canteen. The first director of Primary School No. 6 was Franciszek Górski (he held this position until 1977), Maria Markiewicz was appointed as the deputy. At that time, the group of teachers had 34 teachers. The sixties and seventies were the glory period of the Sixes. The school with its work and various achievements fully deserved to be called the real man of the Renaissance. Thus, in 1973, on the 500th anniversary of the birth of the great astronomer, as a result of discussions in the Ilustrowany Kurier Polskiego, it was decided to give the Primary School No. 6 the name of Nicolaus Copernicus. On February 27, 1973, a ceremony took place, consisting of: reading the act of naming the name, unveiling a plaque commemorating the event, handing the school a banner funded by the Parental Committee and youth, the oath of youth and artistic honor. Since then, February 27 has become a celebration of the celebrated school, very solemnly every year.
