You feel a thrill visiting the crypt with the tombs of kings and famous Poles.

The Chapel of St. Leonard is a remnant of the second Romanesque cathedral built during the time of Władysław Herman in the first half of the 12th century and burned down in 1305. It contained the most outstanding authority of our time - Pope John Paul II. On November 2, 1946, Father Karol Wojtyła celebrated his first mass at the Neo-Roman altar for his dead parents. As a pope, he visited the crypt on June 9, 1997 during his pilgrimage to Poland.
