Real pearls of architecture are hidden in Szejnochy Street. At least they impress me 😀 First the Wallenberg-Pachaly Palace, then this neo-Gothic building of the University Library, once the Municipal Savings Bank and the City Library. It is this building with a characteristic red brick clock tower. It was put into use in 1891 and designed by Richard Pluddemann for the needs of two different institutions (cash registers and libraries), which operated door-to-door from the very beginning. The ground floor was occupied by operating rooms, a treasury and administrative rooms, while the floors were built with a library in mind. Richard Pluddemann, whose buildings made of red brick are the architectural icons of the city, also designed the Market Hall, high school buildings at ul. Piotr Skarga, Tęczowa and Krucza, created the architectural design of the Grunwaldzki Bridge and led the reconstruction of the burnt tower of the Cathedral of st. Mary Magdalene. Because Pluddemann was a construction advisor in Wrocław for 23 years 🧐 The building belongs to the University which has once again tried to sell this library building. While the Wallenberg-Pachalych Palace, which was sold at the same time as the library, was sold, no one was willing to buy the library. The collections from this library have already been moved to the newer building of the University Library at ul. Joliot-Curie.

A beautiful classicist palace from 1875, elements of English and French architecture. Captivating object.
