A somewhat forgotten place by people and time, a souvenir of the Jewish community in Gorzów. There is a new plaque in the Wailing Wall in three languages: Polish, German and Hebrew with the inscription: "THIS STONE WILL BE THIS STONE". Most of the tombstones are already destroyed, but they are still there.
The Jewish cemetery lying between the school playground and plots is slowly deteriorating. It survived the Second World War, defended by the mayor of Landsberg-Gerloff, who did not allow clever German stonemasons to use the cemetery as a quarry. Unfortunately, after 1945 no one guarded him. Devastation and loot began. For many years, the cemetery area was treated by the surrounding gardeners as an excellent pit. At the beginning of the 90s of the 20th century, cutting of bushes and self-seeding began. In 1999, the cemetery gate was restored and a commemorative plaque was built in. In 2006, the cemetery was entered into the register of monuments under No. L-194A.
The cemetery was founded in the 18th century on the hills at today's Gwiaździsta Street. Some hypotheses assume that the "Judenkiever" (Jewish cemetery) could have existed in Landsberg two centuries earlier, but not necessarily in the same place. The cemetery is currently 0.72 ha. The inventory showed the existence of 36 matzevot lying, 23 broken, 10 standing. In addition, 92 grave borders and 10 tombs in the cemetery wall have been preserved. The oldest tombstones come from 1759. There are simple sandstone matzevot, there are also remains of magnificent, richly decorated tombs.
The cemetery is, unfortunately, also one of the partying places, which has a negative effect on the condition of the cemetery. Although it is fenced and has a lockable gate, shady company gets here through the still-growing breaches. The partially preserved wall surrounding the necropolis was built in 1815-35. Also from that time comes the pre-funeral home standing to this day. Under the roofline is a distinct frieze from the stars of David. The turrets in the corners of the building topped with spiers are also interesting.
