Krzyż "Solidarności"

The history of the White Cross, which stood in 1982 at the temple still during its construction, is unusual. More than a six-meter-long cross was made in 1981 by employees of Gorzów's Zremb company on the occasion of the May Day Mass, which was celebrated by Fr. Witold Andrzejewski - chaplain of the Solidarity movement in Gorzów. It was permanently placed in front of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. During the day, the inhabitants lay flowers under it and lit candles. At night, everything was destroyed by the security police. After the biggest confrontation between the zomowców and the population on the second anniversary of August's agreements in 1982, the policemen watched the cross around the clock so that people would not arrange another cross from the flowers. The following year, the cross was moved to the parish of the BVM Queen of Poland at ul. Żeromski and he stands there until today, being a witness of the jubilee celebrations. It is also in this church that many thousands of crowds with the then ordinary of the diocese of Gorzów, bishop. Józef Michalik and priest Henryk Jankowski said goodbye in August 1987 to the first chairman of the NSZZ "Solidarity" in Gorzów, Edward Borowski, who after his internment and constant repression died of a heart attack. Here in 1988, a historical ambulance service for the inhabitants of Gorzów was handed over as a gift from the Social Fund of NSZZ "Solidarność", which was founded on the initiative of Lech Wałęsa. An ambulance was devoted to the then bishop of Gorzów, Józef Michalik. To this day, the Holy Mass is celebrated every month in the church of the Virgin Mary of Poland. for the homeland with the participation of the Solidarity flag of Gorzowa, brought by its activists at that time.
