Brigadier General Stanisław Karliński "Burza" rests at the cemetery. After the dissolution of the Home Army in January 1945, second lieutenant Karliński, following the example of many other soldiers, did not have a chance to get out of the underground. Because he did not want, under pressure from the new authorities and the Soviet headquarters in Piotrków Trybunalski, to issue a statement calling on the Home Army to "leave the forest", he had to hide and in time created an independent unit, which functioned as the Home and Self-Defense Department of the Home Army. Its number is estimated at about one hundred people. In the spring of 1945, 'Burza' carried out several attacks on the MO posts (in Łęczna and Sulejów) and assassinations of UB and MO officers. On 25 June, a car with PUBP employees in Piotrków Trybunalski was attacked in the area of the Lubień forests. The figure of General Stanisław Karliński is also known in the commune of Łęki Szlacheckie.
security camera started hunting for "Storm". Already at the beginning of May, his family farm was burned in the area of Handna, and his relatives (including his wife, two children, one seven months, and the other two years old and the wife's family) were put in a temporary volksdeutsch camp on the outskirts of Piotrków. In this situation, "Burza" decided to break this camp. However, this action had serious consequences. The security apparatus, with the support of the Soviet forces, intensified operational activities against the "Storm". As a result, they led to the determination of the stopping place of the unit and to the bloody battle of Majkowice on July 8, 1945.
