Sopot
The Sopot umbrella
In almost every city monuments are erected to famous people who were born there or stayed for some time. Not everywhere, however, the local originals are commemorated in this way. He has Gorzów of his Szymon Giętego, he has Sopot of his Umbrella. He was honored with the original sculpture of Tadeusz Folltyn set on the popular Monciak (Bohaterów Monte Cassino street).
A long-legged character with a cane, bowler hat and an inseparable umbrella must be viewed from every side. The author of the monument himself said about his hero: "He once dressed up as a tiled stove, and an ash box protruded from behind. That is how I immortalized him on my sculpture. " And this ash pan actually protrudes from the place where the back ends its noble name :) An extremely nice inscription reads: "Cloud of hope and a drop of smile under the umbrella sewn from dreams. Sopot. 30.06.2001".
The Sopot original was really Czesław Bulczyński (1912-1992). It was a kind of symbol and attraction of the city. Wiech once wrote about him: "This umbrella was an older guy who in the past used to create style and aroused sensation with his outfit, pinned female bust, Japanese umbrella, stiff and black beard. The umbrella in his stiff jacket and coat looks like a pre-war retired minister and nobody will even look at him. "
Worth knowing:
Czesław Bulczyński was buried at the Sopot Parish Cemetery. His tombstone resembles several unfolded umbrellas.
Curiosity:
On the occasion of the centenary of Sopot, an album entitled "Sopot Nocturne". The author of the words for all songs is Grażyna Orlińska, music - Tomasz Krezymon. One of them is entitled "When the Umbrella went to Heaven" and Hanna Banaszak sings in it: "When the Umbrella went to Heaven / he was walking as if they were going to a great ball / The umbrella was carried by him over Sopot / as if Chagall himself had invented it"
If someone looks around a little while visiting, he will notice this interesting work
UFO over Sopot ...
A place for art lovers. Unfortunately, it is quite easy to miss them.
I don't know what it is
