Jan Georg Haffner (1775, Colmar, Alsace - 1830, Gdansk, Kingdom of Prussia). Major of French Great Army. Military doctor. Surgeon. After the Napoleonic Wars, he settled in Gdansk. In 1823, from the government of the Kingdom of Prussia and local authorities, he received a business license to develop in Zoppot a commercial business, called as a spa (balneological health facility) with the seaside resort. Jan Georg Haffner has been commemorated by a romantic statue in the city park. I have given to major Haffner ‘’le salute’’ in sunny September 2020.

The monument to the founder of the Sopot health resort, Jan Jerzy Haffner, is located next to the Grand Hotel, in a side alley of the northern park. There are also plaques on which the authors and founders of the monument were mentioned. It was erected on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of granting city rights to Sopot.
