In Biłgoraj, on Plac Wolności, two monuments stand in the vicinity of the town hall. The first one is the Monument of Gratitude from 1966 in the form of machine guns and the second - the Jubilee Monument. The foundation act for this second monument was laid on December 30, 2000 and it was to be "Monument of Gratitude and Thanksgiving for the Great Jubilee 2000 years of Christianity". The honorary patron of the undertaking was taken by the Ordinary of the Zamojsko-Lubaczów Diocese, priest Bishop Jan Śrutwa. The unveiling was made on May 3, 2001, the anniversary of the adoption of the May 3rd Constitution. The designer of the monument is Biłgoraj architect Lech Kwieciński, and his appearance symbolically symbolizes the hands of John Paul II protecting the cross.
