The first entry about the town called Trebnica at that time comes from 1138. Prince Henry the Bearded founded a church and monastery here, in which in 1203 the cistercian sisters who came from Bamberg moved in. In the central part of the city there is a market square with a magnificent town hall. The first town hall in Trzebnica already existed in 1605. The building was demolished in the mid-nineteenth century due to poor technical condition. the present building was built in 1868. During World War II it was severely damaged and then rebuilt. In the years 2006–2007 the town hall was renovated. It is the seat of the Registry Office and the regional museum.
