Polish Hogwarts
Żary was once an important center of the textile industry. Over time, organized and modern factories grew out of craft cloth workshops. The enterprises here needed educated workforce. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries a school was established in Żary, which was a branch of the Prussian School of Textile Industry (German: Preussische Höhere Fachschule für Textil-Industrie).
The school called the Textile Institute received around 1900 a modern school building at today's 9 Maja Street (then Grünbergerstrasse). The institute was built of ceramic brick, giving it fashionable in Prussia XIX and early Of the 20th century neo-Gothic style. The nine-axis, two-story building had a centrally located two-story break. A tall, tile roof topped with a tower with a lantern.
After the occupation of Żary in 1945 by the Red Army, it housed a hospital. After he left the Russians, a school was opened to prepare employees for textile factories resuming production. Currently, the former institute houses the Automotive School Complex.
